What are English proficiency exams?

English proficiency exams are an approved group of exams design to test
and evaluate a healthcare worker's ability to communicate effectively in
English.  Successful completion of one or more of these exams maybe
necessary for an internationally trained nurse to obtain a green card, a
VisaScreen certificate or to get a state nursing license.

Nurses educated in Australia, Canada (except Quebec), Ireland, New
Zealand, United Kingdom, and the United States are exempt from having to
take the English proficiency exams.

The approved exams are as follows:

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
Test of Written English (TWE)
Test of Spoken English (TSE)
Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC)
International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
